Review of The spear cuts through water.

Our previous read was The spear cuts through water written by Simon Jimenez. This book was quite a bit different from our usual reads. It leaned more to the high fantasy side and had a unique writing style. It kept switching from past to present tense, followed a LOT of POV's and switched between first and third person writing.
Aside from that, the book really did feel like a fever dream sometimes and some of us had to learn to just go with the flow and stop trying to understand everything.
The book was so uniquely crafted that we had a hard time discussing the book. We all felt we understood the book, but thinking of and answering questions about it, somehow felt like a real challenge.

This book was received with mixed feeling by our members. About half of us dnf'ed the book, whilst those who did finish it gave it a 4,5 or higher. This book was really a hit or miss. You either love it or hate it.
For some of us this was an eye opener to the high fantasy genre.

Our average rating: 2,5
with the highest rating: 5
and the lowest rating: dnf
"It was a romance after all" whispered a turtle from somewhere far away ;).
